Creating new workouts
Creating new workouts in CrewNerd is very simple. The following workout types are supported:
- Single distance
- Single time
- Distance intervals
- Time intervals
- Stroke intervals
- Custom intervals
To create a new workout, go to the "workouts" tab and press the "+" button on the top navigation bar.
Single time or distance
Next, select the type of workout you want to create. For single distance or time workouts, use the numeric controls to set the workout duration and then press the "Save" button. The workout name is generated automatically.
Time, distance, or stroke intervals
For time, distance or stroke intervals, you enter both the work duration and the rest time between work intervals. Use the radio buttons (Android) or the tabs (iPhone) to switch between the controls for setting the work and rest duration. Note that the rest duration may be zero if you want to move directly from one work interval to the next. Press "Save" to store the workout. For interval workouts, the workout name is also generated automatically (e.g. "1000 m / 5:00 rest...").
Custom intervals
Sometimes, you want to combine intervals of different kinds together in a workout - e.g. a pyramid workout that goes from longer intervals to shorter ones, and the back up to longer intervals. In a custom interval workout, you can create as many intervals as you want of any kind.
When you create a custom interval workout, a screen appears with an empty list of intervals along with a field where you can give a name to your workout. Buttons on the screen allow you to add intervals based on distance, time, or strokes. When you select an interval type to add, the app will ask you to specify the work and rest duration for the interval. Press "Save" to add the new interval to your workout.
A copy button on each interval allows you to quickly make copies of that interval, and standard list editing features make it easy to delete or move intervals around in the list. When you are done editing the list of intervals, you can enter a name of your own for the workout and press save. If you don't enter a name, one will be generated automatically for you.
Stroke rate & Heart rate targets
In each workout, or workout interval, you can specify a target stroke rate or heart rate zone. To set a target, press the "Target" button in the workout editor. This will show you a pair of sliders - one to set a stroke rate target, and the other to select a heart rate zone. Only one type of target can be selected at a time.
During your workout, CrewNerd will signal that you are above or below your target by setting the background color of the stroke rate or heart rate field to red or blue, respectively. For stroke rate targets, the darkness of the background color helps to indicate how far off you are from the target.
Note: to configure your heart rate zones, select the item of that name on the settings page.
