Backing up and restoring your data
CrewNerd allows you to backup and restore your critical data, including:
- Workout history
- Custom workouts
- Custom courses
This can be useful when upgrading to a new phone, or to protect you against damage to your current phone. The backup can also be used by CrewNerd customer support to help diagnose problems exporting or viewing your data.
Creating a backup
To create a backup, scroll to the bottom of the settings page and select "Backup app data". CrewNerd will create a ZIP file containing all of your application data. When this is complete, you will be asked to select a location where the backup will be stored. This can be a folder on your phone, but if you have cloud storage configured on your phone (e.g. DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.) then you can get additional protection by storing your backup there.
Restoring from a backup
To restore your application data from a backup that you saved previously, press "Restore app data" near the bottom of the settings page. CrewNerd will ask you to select a ZIP file containing the backup - either on your phone or in a configured cloud storage service.
CrewNerd will verify that the selected file is a valid CrewNerd backup. Note that backups cannot be transferred between iPhone and Android, so CrewNerd will also verify that the backup was created on the same phone platform.
When the selected backup file is verified, it will be restored as follows:
- workout history - the saved workouts in your backup are added to shoe already present in the application. Existing workout history is never deleted when restoring from a backup
- custom workouts - the custom workouts in your backup replace any that are currently present in the app
- custom courses - if you have previously imported a custom courses file, it is replaced by the one in the backup
