Exporting workout data
CrewNerd can export your workout data directly to several training sites, or to files in a variety of different formats. In each case, CrewNerd strives to retain as much detail as possible given the limitations of the export destination.
To export workout data, go to the history page and select the practice that you want to export. On Android, press the sharing icon at the top of the screen. On iPhone, press the "Select export type" button under the workout list for the practice. On both phone platforms, you'll see a list of available training sites and file formats.
After selecting an export type, you'll see a list of workouts. By default, all of the workouts in the practice are exported, but there may be times when you want to only export some of your workouts, and this screen allows you to "uncheck" any workouts that you don't want to include in the export.
The available training sites and file formats are described below.
Training sites
The following training sites are supported directly by CrewNerd. To export to these sites, you must first connect to your account on the CrewNerd settings page. Once you have signed into your account(s) there, exporting to the site is quick and simple.
Strava
Workout data can be uploaded to Strava as a single, combined activity. CrewNerd uses the most appropriate supported activity type on Strava based on the current activity setting of the app. Stroke rate data appears as cadence on Strava, and heart rate data is included if available.
If you have added practice notes, those are used for the activity description, and the activity name is based on the practice date and time. All of this can be edited in the Strava app or web site.
Concept2 Logbook
The Concept2 Logbook site focuses primarily on tracking erg sessions, but can be used to track water workouts as well. This can be a great way to capture all of your training data in a single location.
Rowsandall
Rowsandall.com is an online tool for rowers to analyze data from On The Water (OTW) and On The Erg (OTE) workouts. It accepts workout data from a number of devices and applications in addition to CrewNerd. It analyzes the data to provide valuable insights about your training, and enables you to share data with many common online training tracking systems.
TrainingPeaks
TrainingPeaks.com is a comprehensive athletic training site that enables coaches and athletes to share workout data and training plans. CrewNerd can now upload your practice data directly to your TrainingPeaks.com account.
Sportlyzer
Sportlyzer.com is another athletic training site with great support for sharing workout data between athletes and coaches. In the CrewNerd settings for Sportlyzer you can select the activity name to use for your uploads (the default is "Row"). By default, all of the workouts in a practice are combined together in a single workout on Sportlyzer. If you want each CrewNerd workout to show up separately, select the "Split workouts" option in the settings.
File formats
When you export to a file, you can choose whether to send the file by email, or store it locally on your phone. The available formats are:
- TCX - developed by Garmin, this format holds the most detailed information about your workouts including speed, stroke rate, location, and heart rate. This format can be imported by many different training sites and desktop applications.
- KML - used by Google Maps, Google Earth, and other applications. This format is not designed for recording athletic data, but its flexibility allows us to put summary information on the map in a nice format.
- GPX - used mostly for storing hiking and running routes. It has better support for performance data than KML, but not as much as TCX.
- CSV - CrewNerd supports CSV exports for workout & interval summary data, and also for detailed data within each interval.
Exporting CSV data
CSV data is sometimes preferred because it can give you the most detailed view of an interval and can be imported into many kinds of database and spreadsheet applications, where you can examine the data in any way that you like.
Exporting summary and interval details varies somewhat by platform.
On iPhone, you can export summary-level CSV data as described above. To export detailed CSV data for a particular interval, select the workout of interest and press the "Export CSV" on each interval that you want to export.
On Android, selecting CSV as an export option exports summary-level data and interval details at the same time.
Garmin Connect
Many people have asked about uploading directly to the Garmin Connect training site. Unfortunately, Garmin doesn't generally give third-party apps access to their site, so it isn't possible for CrewNerd to upload there directly.
However, you can export TCX files from CrewNerd and manually import these to Garmin Connect. To do this, you'll need to first go to the CrewNerd advanced settings page and enable compatibility with Garmin Connect. This is required because Garmin imposes some additional requirements on TCX files and by default, TCX files exported from CrewNerd will not be accepted.
