Speech settings
To support blind or vision-impaired athletes, CrewNerd can provide feedback through an audio interface. The speech settings are on their own sub-page on the settings screen and provide a great deal of flexibility in terms of what feedback is given and how frequently.
Note that speech output is only given when the timer is running.
Speech Output
- Speech enabled - turn this on to enable speech output
- Speech rate
On iPhone, speech output is also enabled if the VoiceOver accessibility feature is turned on. VoiceOver users should control the speech rate in the iOS accessibility settings.
Speech Options
- Timer announcements - if enabled, CrewNerd will make an announcement when the state of the timer changes. This is especially useful if the auto start/stop feature is turned on.
- Announce starts - this instructs CrewNerd to make speech announcements during a countdown start.
- Include units - if this switch is enabled, CrewNerd will include the units of measurement in when announcing performance data. Most users prefer to leave this off.
Waypoint announcement
These settings control which announcements are made for waypoints when using a custom course.
- Entering waypoint
- Leaving waypoint
- Skipping waypoint
Distance interval
CrewNerd can make an announcement at regular distance intervals. This setting controls the distance interval at which these announcements are made
- Frequency - options are 100, 250, 500, 1000, or 2000 meters (or never).
Time interval announcements
CrewNerd can provide announcements at three different configurable time intervals. This allows you to hear critical data more frequently while still getting periodic information about data that's less important. For efficiency, the short time announcement omits the data type and units.
The time intervals and available data options are listed below.
